The original LP I Saw The Outer Limits (Space And Maryjuane Trip Is Same) released in 1978 by Toho Records. Mini-CD: Special thanks: Hiromasa Horiuchi, Osamu Ibe, Tim Olive. The original 7" flexi-disc was released as a souvenir during the famed World Expo '70 in Osaka. As befitting Expo 70's remit as a meeting of world cultures, Ohno chose six well-loved Japanese and international songs - and rendered them entirely in animal and bird sounds, using analog tape recordings.

Engineer – Matsuo Ohno. Interviewee – Matsuo Ohno. Liner Notes – Jim O'Rourke, 横川理彦. Tracks 1 to 8 composed in 1978 for the film 『そこに宇宙の果てを見た』(I Saw the Outer Limits) at Sogosha C. Tokyo. Tracks 9 to 19 composed in 1977 for the film 『惑星大戦争』(The War In Space) at Sogosha C. Both films by Toho studios.

I Saw The Outer Limits was the first full-length non-soundtrack release by Matsuo Ohno. The record was a huge step for him, being non-programmatic music, designed to stand alone, free of visual imagery. Ohno himself has. stated that he was uninterested in notions of message, expression and representation. Shinji Hinoki, a producer at Toho Records, approached Ohno with the offer of releasing an album; Hinoki perhaps envisioned something to cash in on the popularity. of the synth-driven elements of Pink Floyd - what he got was something much more abstract and otherworldly. Hinoki supplied both.

This 2007 release was Outer Limits' first album in twenty years. Prior to this, they released a few albums in the 1980's. I don't know anything about their earlier efforts, but this album is quite a piece of work. First, there are ten tracks of which six are instrumentals. If you are worried about the lyrics you should know that they are all in English. The singing good enough and the accent not nearly as strong as some indie bands I have heard, though the incorrect pronunciation of some words is still typical of many Japanese speakers and the lyrics sometimes sound peculiar
