Since the release of his excellent 2017 album Purgatory, Tyler Childers’ rise, from logging millions of this site streams to consistent sold-out tour dates around the country, has been one of the genre’s biggest success stories - in part because the Kentucky native did it all completely independently. On August 2nd, Childers will release his second LP, Country Squire, via his own Hickman Holler Records, under exclusive license to RCA Records. In fact, every song on the album should be familiar to fans, proving that though Childers might now be signed to a major label, he’s clearly held on to artistic control. To support the album, Childers will launch the headlining Country Squire Run Tour. I’ve been writing a lot of road songs. Writing a lot of homesick songs, he told Rolling Stone last year.

The album title comes from the Brecht/Weill opera Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), first performed in 1930 but banned by the Nazis three years later. The London production at Sadler’s Wells Opera in January 1963 was conducted by Colin Davis. The documentary was filmed at the same concert in 1973, where Bowie decided to retire the Ziggy Stardust persona. This album was also selected by the Library of Congress, for preservation in the National Recording Registry, in 2017. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Q&A.

Dixon Dedman of Kentucky Owl. This region has matured with the rise of the bourbon industry the way a stupid underage kid grows up to be a sophisticated adult, he said. I would never in my wildest dreams have imagined that we’d be where we are today. Within a few weeks, nearly every bottle of Kentucky Owl had sold out. On the secondary market, flippers were asking - and getting - five times what they had paid in stores. Several factors gave Kentucky Owl a boost.
