Monster Movie is the debut studio album by German rock band Can, released in August 1969 by Music Factory and Liberty Records. In 1968 Can had produced an album entitled Prepared to Meet Thy Pnoom, which no record company agreed to release (recordings were eventually released on LP in 1981 as part of Delay 1968).

Though Monster Movie was the first full-length album in what would become a sprawling and often genre-defining discography, Can were on a level well ahead of the curve even in their most formative days. Recorded and released in 1969, Monster Movie bears many of the trademarks that Can would explore as they went on, as well as elements that would set the scene for the burgeoning Krautrock movement. This would be the only album Can's first singer Malcolm Mooney would sing the entirety of, as he was replaced by Damo Suzuki by the time of 1970's Soundtracks, leaving the band after going.

Monster Movie was released in 1969, and is Can's most rock-oriented album by a considerable margin. Its songs are raw and aggressive- very much informed by The Velvet Underground's larval trance-rock- and they mark Malcolm Mooney as nothing if not an inspired amateur. Father Cannot Yell" leaps out of the gate with a hi-speed keyboard flutter and the snap of Jaki Liebezeit's snare.

Monster Movie is the debut album by Can. Some copies of the LP bore the subtitle "Made in a castle with better equipment". Upon its release in 1969, the album became very influential in the development of Krautrock. It is notable for being the only Can album (until the 1989 reunion on Rite Time) on which Malcolm Mooney performed all of the vocals. Mooney recorded a few songs for the following Soundtracks album and was replaced by Damo Suzuki

Band Name Can. Album Name Monster Movie. Data de aparición Agosto 1969. Labels Liberation Records. Estilo MusicalKrautrock. Miembros poseen este álbum10. 1. Father Cannot Yell. 2. Mary, Mary So Contrary.

CAN have Malcolm Mooney on vocals here, but he lays the groundwork Damo Suzuki would so effectively shatter.

Previously the band had been known as "Inner Space", which later became the name of their purpose-built recording studio. Monster Movie brings together elements of psychedelic rock, blues, free jazz, world music and other styles, the influence of the Velvet Underground being particularly obvious on the opening track "Father Cannot Yell".
