Second album Time to Go Home takes the band's unique blend of beauty and absurdity into slightly different places. Still intact is their weird blend of ridiculous lyrical passages and serious, even somewhat reserved playing. The lazy drift of "On the Floor" hints at genuine feelings of post-college displacement and album-opener "Drone" reappropriates a line from author Sheila Heti's novel How Should a Person Be for the chorus.

Chastity Belt's second album is a beautifully composed record about confronting your fuck-ups, but it’s also a record about feeling numb to them. A variation of this same line appears in the chorus of Chastity Belt’s "Drone", the opening track on their second album Time to Go Home. It’s a song about the illusion of freedom and respect within a relationship, its context vague but the sentiment arguably universal.

Chastity Belt have long had a talent for imbuing their songs with an equal amount of sarcasm and empathy, and on "Time To Go Home", they use that skill to rally themselves around one of their best songs to date. Rather, the whole song is wrapped in their signature gauzy haze that splits the difference between eyeroll and starry-eyed. There's a million songs about the unexpectedly great nights out, so in "Time To Go Home", there's now an anthem about the ones that didn't go as well as planned, even if you still got pizza. Chastity Belt will play LIVE on KEXP on Saturday, March 28, at 1PM, just before their record release show with Cool Ghouls and Dude York at the Highline on March 28th

Chastity Belt – Cool Slut. The album shifts easily between melancholy and carefree moods, a lot like being young. Melodies, too, are often pleasingly unpredictable; they twist like early Pearl Jam and carry some of the joy of well-crafted rock – the kind that felt like fresh air when it came out of Seattle in the early 90s. Chastity Belt carries stylistic elements that are common among all-male bands, and sound anything but derivative. The Thing’ is a solid dose of glam metal, but with witchy screams that would make Clarissa Pinkola Estés, P.
