On their 1964 album A Visit to Beatle Inn, ‘I’ll Get You’ is the only Beatles song they recorded. Meet The Secrets at The Beatle Inn. The Secrets were a Christchurch band, featuring the late Gary Thain who was later in UK band Uriah Heep. Listen to the Finn brothers’ first album, recorded at Auckland’s Revolver (!) studio, and you might think that Magical Mystery Tour was always playing in the foyer as they entered the building. It isn’t so much the hip references – such as the backwards vocals on ‘Suffer Never’, which could be sampled from ‘Blue Jay Way’ – as the experimental, casual approach.

Released in March 1963, the album initiated a run during which eleven of their twelve studio albums released in the United Kingdom through to 1970 reached number one. The band's third single, "From Me to You", came out in April and was also a chart-topping hit, starting an almost unbroken string of seventeen British number-one singles for the Beatles . The Beatles' first visit to the United States took place when the nation was still mourning the assassination of President John F. Kennedy the previous November.
The Merseymen had the credentials to play the beat music required, as three of its members all hailed from England. Mike Leyton (real name Mike Puddyfoot) and Dave Moan were both from London, and drummer Jett Rink had also only recently arrived in the country. Jett Rink's real name was John Tait and later on he was to use the name Dylan Tait, when he became a television reporter. Bob Paris had been around the Auckland music scene for several years. His Bob Paris Combo had been the resident band at the Jive Centre in 1958
