Sonata for solo cello. Opus/Catalogue NumberOp. I-Catalogue NumberI-Cat. No. IZK 7. Key. B minor.

Kodály's Sonata for solo cello of 1915 is perhaps the first major work for unaccompanied cello after Bach's six great suites of almost 200 years earlier. Since becoming a professor of composition at Budapest's Royal Academy of Music in 1908, most of his compositions had been chamber works for strings; the Cello Sonata is perhaps the most ambitious of the early string works

This is a list of compositions for cello and piano. This includes sonatas as well as other short pieces for cello and piano. Charles-Valentin Alkan. Cello sonata "Sonate de concert", Op. 47 in E (1857). Andante Pathetico for cello and piano opus 17 (1915–1921). Cello Sonata in G major, Op. 112 (1981–1982). Habil-Sayagy In Habil's Style for cello and piano.

8 composed by Zoltán Kodály must take pride of place. Starker performed this work for the composer Kodály in 1939 when he was just 15 years old, first privately and then in concert in Budapest. Starker was the first to record it (at 78 rpm), in Paris in 1948, and he received the Grand Prix du Disque award for that recording. There is more on this disc than the Sonata for Unaccompanied Cello, Op. 8 - also included is Kodály's Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7, with Josef Gingold on violin. The Sonata for unaccompanied cello o. is not that great but its good. I was mostly impressed by the 3rd movement. Starker seemingly uses a lot of technicality with small pizicato inbetween his bowing. The other 1st & 2nd movements are played with no visible fault but they are a little bit dry for m. agree with the other.

Just a little progress every day makes big progress over time. I’ll stop teaching when I stop learning. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Sonata for Solo Cello (Kodály). The Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály wrote his Sonata in B minor for solo cello, Op. 8, in 1915. It was first performed in 1918 and published in 1921. It is among the most significant works for solo cello written since Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suites. It contains influences of Debussy and Bartók, as well as the inflections and nuances of Hungarian folk music.
