Gagliano, Marco da. I-Catalogue NumberI-Cat. Gagliano further called upon the orchestra to provide a sinfonia before the raising of the curtain. Thus, the work clearly had an orchestra of some sort, so it has been tagged for orchestra, though if the manuscript Grove Music mentions is uploaded, the tag may have to be changed to strings only. php?title La Dafne (Gagliano, Marco da)&oldid 2209910.

Marco da Gagliano (1 May 1582 – 25 February 1643) was an Italian composer of the early Baroque era. He was important in the early history of opera and the development of the solo and concerted madrigal. He was born in Florence and lived most of his life there. After study with a religious confraternity and Luca Bati, he was employed for six years from 1602 by the church of San Lorenzo as a singing instructor
