Baron Arthur Grumiaux (21 March 1921 – 16 October 1986) was a Belgian violinist. Of the Franco-Belgian school, Arthur Grumiaux is considered to have been one of the few truly great violin virtuosi of the 20th century. In his relatively short life his achievements were superb. He brought to performances guaranteed technical command, faithfulness to the composer's intent, and sensitivity toward the intricate delineations of musical structure. His fame was built upon extraordinary violin concerto performances and chamber-music appearances with his own Grumiaux Trio

International Grumiaux Violin Competition. Arthur Grumiaux and Heinz Holliger play Bach Concerto for Violin and Oboe BWV 1060 (Adagio). Heinz Holliger (b. 1939) is considered one of the world's leading oboe virtuosos, as well as a noted composer and conductor. He then moved to Paris to study oboe with Pierlot, and piano with Lefébure. In 1959 he won a first prize for oboe in the Geneva Competition, and in the same year was hired as an oboist by the Basel Symphony Orchestra.

This two-disc set contains both of Arthur Grumiaux's recordings of Italian and French Baroque violin sonatas. Listeners who already know Grumiaux's unsurpassed recordings of Bach and Handel's violin sonatas will understandably be dying to hear what he does with these works - and they won't be disappointed. Whether recorded early or late in the violinist's career, the playing is consistently flawless. From the double and triple trills in the Allegro assai of Tartini's sonata to the arresting Larghetto of Nardini's sonata, Grumiaux delivers model performances.
