Alva Noto - Unieqav Carsten Nicolai's Uni album series was initially inspired by a live show at the Tokyo nightclub Unit, where he decided to adjust his material for the dance floor. The first two LPs, Unitxt and Univrs, took Nicolai's clinical sound as Alva Noto and made it spontaneous and combustible. The German artist seems inspired once more, having revived his label, Noton, with two revealing archival recordings. Unieqav, already his third release of 2018, completes the Uni series with an album that delivers on the radical promise of the first two. If those earlier records made.
Listen free to Alva Noto – Unieqav (Uni Sub, Uni Mia and more). The follow-up to Unitxt (2008) and Univrs (2011) pairs pendulous minimal techno and electro rhythms with wide, sheer electronic drones in a way that strongly recalls recent Monolake output as well as Ilpo Väisänen in full swang. Pursuing the project's roots in the dancefloor of Tokyo's UNIT club to a satisfyingly logical endpoint, Nicolai rolls out 12 typically mercurial, yet.

What Unieqav does is craft a digital world sewn together by technology, biological information, science, and action. Engaged by the imprint of minimal techno beats and gliding melodies, the possibilities Unieqav promise are far from endless, but are indeed beautiful.

Back in 2008, noted experimentalist Alva Noto began a sporadic series of albums that were far more focused on dancefloor-inspired rhythms than his usual eccentric and inspiring fare. Unieqav is the third and, we're told, final part of the series. The album is apparently meant to be a sonic representation of an underwater dive, a conceptual theme which manifests itself through the storied producer's use of deep and atmospheric chords, fluid and occasionally glistening electronics, and rhythms that evoke images of ever-deeper dives into the dark, cold depths.
