A classical album that promises to be nothing more than a shining example of virtuoso playing by three incredible musicians, "Appalachia Waltz" leaves very little to be desired-it is that good. My only wish is for a few more selections like the title track-quiet and contemplative songs that evoke warm nights on front porches.

Edgar Meyer (born November 24, 1960) is an American bassist and composer. His styles include classical, bluegrass, newgrass, and jazz. His collaborators have spanned a wide range of musical styles and talents; among them are Joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn, Yo-Yo Ma, Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, Chris Thile, Mike Marshall, Mark O'Connor, Christian McBride, and Emanuel Ax.

Appalachia Waltz is the first recording with the Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Edgar Meyer (double bass), Mark O’Connor (violin) trio, released in 1996. The album features, aside from some great fiddling and compositions by Mark O’Connor, the fantastic fiddling of Edgar Meyer on double bass. If any bass player has not heard this album, I would highly recommend it. I was hooked right from the first time I heard the opening track with Edgar Meyer playing the melody on The Green Groves of Erin.
