The idea on which MAHLE was founded was new and different, and it went one step further. The success story begins in 1920 when pistons made of heavy gray cast iron were being used in internal combustion engines for automobiles. The Mahle brothers countered this trend by producing light-alloy pistons at their small, newly established company-but the technology is still finicky and problems come up frequently.

Notes

Plässit on omistettu Martti Pokelalle, Pärre-Henkka P.H.Nordgrenille ja Kevätuhri ja kosinta postuumisti Erkki Ala-Könnille. |
8 is dedicated to Martti Pokela, 9 to Pehr Henrik Nordgren and 7 posthumously to Erkki Ala-Könni.

Sävelmät Lehmän tanssi, Rykälinnun laulu, Venäläisen itku ja Kyyhkyseni perustuvat lapinlahtelaisen Vilhelmiina Halosen 5-kielisen kanteleen perinnesävelmiin. Kalevalasävelmää on improvisaatio tunnetuimman kalevalamelodian ja Jouhikielisellä improvisaatio kirkonkellomelodioiden pohjalta. Plässit-sävelmän taustalla on aunuksenkarjalainen kantelesävelmä. |
3, 10, 11 and 14 are traditional 5-string kantele tunes from the playing of Vilhelmiina Halonen from Lapinlahti. 12 is an improvisation based on the most famous Kalevala tune, 5 is an improvisation based on traditional kantele renditions of church bell melodies, and 8 is based on an Aunus Karelian kantele tune.
