The Monty Python comedy troupe branched off into a variety of different media after the success of their sketch comedy television series, Monty Python's Flying Circus. Live at Drury Lane is a great place for Python enthusiasts to start and revisit, as the presence of a live crowd progresses the humor to a new strata that is absent from the comparatively sterile TV versions.

It was recorded at Drury Lane Theatre in London and features mostly sketches and songs from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Most of it are exact renditions of the TV versions, but here and there the Pythons offer some slight variations in delivery, extra lines, Audience Participation or Improv. Covers Always Lie: Despite being announced as a Monty Python not all the material here is from their series. Some sketches are from the time they were college students performing, others from the radio show ‘’At Last the 1948 Show where Cleese and Chapman were regulars: Cocktail Bar. Live Album: This is Monty Python's second concert album. Motor Mouth: Mr. Smoketoomuch can't shut up and just keeps on ranting. Mundane Made Awesome: "I've Got Two Legs", a Captain Obvious song about legs, nevertheless very catchy.

Monty Python’s First Farewell Tour’ took the United Kingdom by storm in the Spring of 1973 and then invaded Canada that Summer, before returning triumphantly to London for the Drury Lane shows. The planned run of two weeks was hastily extended to the month of March, 1974. The show was even given the Royal seal of approval, Python style at least. The Royal box was always occupied by a dummy Princess Margaret. For Terry Jones: it was the nearest that any of us ever got to having a proper job.
