The album was recorded in five days in June 1982 and was released in January 1983 through Spiderleg Records and it was re-released on Bluurg, the bands own record label. The album is influenced by the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, the most obvious sign of such an influence is the song Big Brother, Big Brother is the dictatorial political leader figure in Orwells novel. Today, there is an amount of video surveillance in the United Kingdom. Towards the end of the year, original bassist Grant left the band, the following year, the band released their second album, From the Cradle to the Grave. The release demonstrated a musical development for the band, particularly with the title track - a progressive piece that took up the albums entire second side.
