Diamonds" is the second single by Herb Alpert from his Keep Your Eye on Me album. Released in March 1987, the song features lead and background vocals by Janet Jackson and Lisa Keith. This single marked a huge comeback for Herb Alpert. Four tracks on its parent album Keep Your Eye on Me were produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who melded Alpert's sound with their own Minneapolis funk.

Later, Jam & Lewis teamed with A&M co-owner Herb Alpert for his Keep Your Eyes on Me album. While they were coming up with material, Janet Jackson returned to the duo's home base of Minneapolis to record overdubs for "Control," the title track of her multi-platinum Jam & Lewis-produced LP. Overhearing one of the tracks for Alpert titled "Diamonds," she expressed interest in singing on it, which she did, along with Lisa Keith. Diamonds" parked at number one R&B for two weeks and at number five pop in summer 1987
