Robert Shaw leads a group of talented men and women performing some of the most enjoyable traditional holiday carols. 15 perfect reminders of the magic of Christmas time. Disc: 1. Good Christian Men, Rejoice/Silent Night/Patapan/O Come, All Ye Faithful - Robert Shaw Chorale and Orchestra. 2. It Came Upon the Midnight Clear. 3. O Come, O Come Emanuel. 5. Go, Tell It on the Mountain (Negro Spiritual). We've come along ways from the 50s and 60s, the Robert Shaw Chorale, and Robert Russell Bennett's magnificent orchestral arrangements. Many listeners - of a certain age - will rememeber Bennett's masterful orchestration of Richard Rogers's "Victory at Sea", Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess"; many broadway musicals, and much more. He was a brillant orchestrator who, alas, belongs to a different era.
Robert Shaw Chorale: Swedish tenor. One of the leading operatic singers of the 20th century, Björling appeared for many years at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and less frequently at the major European opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London and La Scala in Milan. What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor, Spanish Ladies, Nabucco: Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate (Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) и другие песни.
