Rancid is the eponymously titled debut studio album by the American punk rock band Rancid. It was released on May 10, 1993, through Epitaph Records. It is the only album to feature the band as a trio (guitarist/vocalist Lars Frederiksen would later join the band for the album's supporting tour), as well as one of three albums not to be produced by Brett Gurewitz (the others being. And Out Come The Wolves and Life Won't Wait). However, Gurewitz provided backing vocals on the album.

In a statement, Lars Frederiksen discussed the Warner Bros. deal by saying "We have absolutely no complaints with Hellcat. Yes, we are considering additional support that Warner Bros. might be able to provide, but whatever happens, we're sticking with Brett Gurewitz. All I care about and all I have is my music, my bandmates and my band. We are going to do whatever we need to do to survive. The album was met mostly with critical praise and made its chart.

On this album, they had Brett Gurewitz (owner of Epitaph Records and guitarist of fellow punk band Bad Religion), and other Epitaph musicians such as Pennywise members Fletcher Drage and Jim Lindberg (to my understanding) on back-up vocals. As Operation Ivy had done, the songs basically live from the basslines. The guitar in the songs on this album canâ€™t last by itself, just like . so they depend on the bassline to carry the song. basslines, they are well constructed, fast and something to admire.
