Revolver is the seventh studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. Released on 5 August 1966, it was the Beatles' final recording project before their retirement as live performers and marked the group's most overt use of studio technology up to that time, building on the advances of their late 1965 release Rubber Soul.
Revolver, the Beatles' seventh album, was released 50 years ago today. For years, it was just another album in the band's catalog, overshadowed by the album that followed it, 1967's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and which marked a cultural shift-not to mention a change in the Fab Four's collective appearance. Then, as the years passed, critics and fans began to look at the Beatles' studio output for artistic inspiration and clues to their greatness.
The Beatles' seventh album was released in early August 1966. Following the release of Rubber Soul the group had embarked on what was to be their final UK concert tour and following a lengthy break, they returned to Abbey Road to record continually for three months. The first recordings released from these sessions, engineered by Geoff Emerick, was the single "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" and those tracks gave an indication of what was to come.
The Beatles (The Original Studio Recordings) – also known as The Beatles: Stereo Box – is a box set compilation comprising all remastered recordings by British rock group the Beatles. The set was issued on 9 September 2009, along with the remastered mono recordings and companion The Beatles in Mono and The Beatles: Rock Band video game. The remastering project for both mono and stereo versions was led by EMI senior studio engineers Allan Rouse and Guy Massey.
The classic original Beatles studio albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilising state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the Beatles catalogue has seen since its original release. Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes . Last night listening to Revolver was a revolutionary experience. A completely different level of Beatles music. I had the Stereo LP and I've listened to that probably a solid 40-50 times so I have a pretty good experience in Revolver's sound.

The Beatles had come into the ‘Revolver’ sessions completely refreshed and rejuvenated after a few months off recharging their batteries, stated engineer Geoff Emerick, adding, It was just magic, pure serendipity. The beginning months of both 1964 and 1965 had been spent writing and recording songs for a motion picture they were to star in followed by the actual filming of the movie.
