Ashes And Diamonds - the title song of Zaine’s first solo album - has always been on of his most popular songs. The album made Zaine popular in Engeland and other Western European countries like Belgium, France, Netherlands and Germany, but also made him very big in Japan, where the album was selling huge in the first weeks and all pop magazines wrote large articles about Zaine, calling him one of the trending personalities in the British New Romantics movement. Zaine even had his own Japanese fanclub with their own fan magazine. MGMT recently added Zaine’s ASHES AND DIAMONDS - the best known song of Zaine Griff - to their live repertoire and performed it on stage at their recent tour for their new 2018 album Little Dark Age. Ashes & Diamonds ignited ‘Zaine Griff’ and saw Europe and Japan grow an appetite for his unique blend of pop, rock and performance art. A certain gentleman who added a great deal to the sonic tone and colour was Hans Zimmer. At that time a nascent producer and permanent keyboardist in Zaine’s residency band at the legendary ‘Venue’ in London’s West End. Helden was an electronic new wave project formed in the summer of 1980 by future successful film-musician Hans Zimmer and then Ultravox drummer Warren Cann. The project also featured guest participations of singers Zaine Griff and Linda Jardim. During 1979 and 1980, Zimmer and Cann were constantly working along as part of the backing band of New Zealand singer Zaine Griff, and were also doing TV presentations as part of the guest line-up of musicians with The Buggles
