"Jazzgruppen aus acht Nationen traten in der Zeit vom 11. bis 13. März 1966 im Wiener Konzerthaus zum Wettstreit an, um Punkte und Plätze zu erreichen. Es war ein guter Gedanke, diesmal in einem größeren Ausmaß als bisher auch ausländische Bands einzuladen und so der größten Veranstaltung der nichtprofessionellen Jazzmusik in Österreich den Weg zur Internationalität zu öffnen. Von einer professionellen Jury gewählt - es gab eine österreichische und eine internationale Bewertung - präsentiert die vorliegende Schallplatte die besten Gruppen aus einem insgesamt zwölfstündigen Monsterprogramm, bei dem viele junge Musiker durch ihr ambitioniertes Spiel das Publikum bisweilen zu Applausstürmen mitrissen.

Die österreichische Phonothek wäre froh, wenn es ihr mit dieser Platte gelungen wäre, das Verständnis für die Jazzmusik in Österreich zu wecken und zu fördern."
