George Frideric (or Frederick) Handel (/ˈhændəl/; born Georg Friederich Händel (listen); 23 February 1685 (. – 14 April 1759) was a German, later British, Baroque composer who spent the bulk of his career in London, becoming well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos.

Georg Friedrich Händel. An Oratorio; or Sacred Drama. Words by Thomas Morell. Iphis, his Dauhghter (soprano). Storgè, his Wife (mezzo-soprano). Zebul, his Brother (bass). Hamor, in love with Iphis (alto). Jephtha I will, so please it Heav'n, and these the terms: If I command in war, the like command, Should Heav'en vouchsafe us a victorious peace, Shall still be mine. 6. Air. Jephtha Virtue my soul shall still embrace, Goodness shall make me great. Georg Friedrich Haendel. By 1750, Handel had entirely lost sight in his left eye. He forged on, however, composing the oratorio Jephtha, which also contained a reference to obscured vision. In 1752 Handel lost sight in his other eye and was rendered completely blind. As always before, Handel’s passionate pursuit of music propelled him forward.
