The Howlin' Wolf Album is a 1969 album by Howlin' Wolf, with members of Rotary Connection as his backing band. It mixed blues with psychedelic rock arrangements of several of Howlin' Wolf's classic songs. Howlin' Wolf strongly disliked the album, which is noted on the album's cover. The album peaked at number 69 on Billboard magazine's Black Albums chart. Three Hundred Pounds of Joy".

The Howlin' Wolf Album, like rival bluesman Muddy Waters's album Electric Mud, was designed to appeal to the hippie audience. The album had an attention-getting cover: large black letters on a white background proclaiming "This is Howlin' Wolf's new album. Three Hundred Pounds of Joy" b/w "Built for Comfort".

Three Hundred Pounds Of Joy. Howlin' Wolf. Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 in White Station, Mississippi, United States – January 10, 1976 in Hines, Illinois, United States), known as Howlin' Wolf, was an influential American blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player. With a booming voice and looming physical presence, Burnett is commonly ranked among the leading performers in electric blues; musician and critic Cub Koda declared, "no one could match Howlin' Wolf for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits.

The Wolf here is not embarrassed nor lighthearted about his weight: he's strutting it and showing it off, and making it implicit that when it comes to good loving, the more the better. Musically speaking, the track, like several others cut by Chess Records bluesmen around the time, shows Howlin' Wolf starting to incorporate brass into guitar-dominated electric blues. Often that had the effect of diluting musical power, but in "Three Hundred Pounds of Joy" the tenor and baritone saxes work well, offering humorous and playful riffs
