Forest management is a branch of forestry concerned with overall administrative, economic, legal, and social aspects, as well as scientific and technical aspects, such as silviculture, protection, and forest regulation. This includes management for aesthetics, fish, recreation, urban values, water, wilderness, wildlife, wood products, forest genetic resources, and other forest resource values.
Sustainable forest management. Sustainable forest management is the management of forests according to the principles of sustainable development. Sustainable forest management has to keep the balance between three main pillars: ecological, economic and socio-cultural. The shifting of natural resource management responsibilities from central to state and local governments, where this is occurring, is usually a part of broader decentralization process. According to Rondinelli and Cheema (1983), there are four distinct decentralization options: these are: (i) Privatization – the transfer of authority from the central government to non-governmental sectors otherwise known as market-based service.

Various Sources of Light Passageways is John Daniel's most personal work to date. An ode to his childhood home - a secluded apartment complex in Cleveland that his parents managed - "Passageways" refer to the various connecting hallways running between rooms as much as it refers to the way the passing of time overtakes our perception of spaces that seemed to be endless corridors into discovery and imagination.
It’s in this conceptual context that I coordinate the Atlantic Forest Ecoregional Action Program. Right now we are approaching the end of a 5 year program and we are finalizing the new action plan for the ecoregion. In the past we had strategies on better management practices, protected areas, species and climate change and forest management. Now we are focusing on a wider set of issues, such as raising awareness and social change in communities, and considering multi-stakeholder approaches that might help us catalyse the paradigm shift that we are after.

Forest Ecology and Management. In the past several decades, a trend in forestry and silviculture has been toward promoting complexity in forest ecosystems, but how complexity is conceived and described has shifted over time as new ideas and terminology have been introduced. Historically, silviculture has focused largely on manipulation of structural complexity, but often with the functional role of features in mind.
