I'd do anything for you babe, I’d give my everything to you. I would take a bullet for you babe, best believe I would. And if I do, you’re always going to haunt me, cause babe I LOVE YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING.

I love you more than anything in the world combined. I love you more than words. And I am a big fan of words. I love you more than my own skin. I love you more today than yesterday. But, darling, not as much as tomorrow. I love you more than I hate everything else. I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow. For you see, each day I love you more Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow. I love you more than I did yesterday, but I not as much as tomorrow but always forever.

From Al Kooper's biography Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards: "'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know' was a split tribute to Otis Redding and James Brown. The lyrics were a nod to Otis' song 'I Love You More Than Words Can Say,' and the melody was 'reminiscent' of James Brown's 'It's a Man's World. ) On December 6 ('67), Otis died in a plane crash and it really f ed me up. The next night we began recording the album. I insisted we record 'I Love You' first.
