Sweet Deceiver is the sixth studio album by Kevin Ayers and his last for Island Records. It is one of Ayers’ more rock-oriented productions, with the first side featuring the progressive material, while the second was more mainstream. Guitarist Ollie Halsall was now a key foil for Ayers and his playing on the opening track Observations is a clear demonstration of his dexterity.
Kevin Pearce (born November 1, 1987) is an American former professional snowboarder. He was born in Hanover, New Hampshire, and raised in Hartland, Vermont before moving with his parents to Norwich, Vermont. He competed professionally from 2007 to 2009 when a crash during snowboard training left him with a traumatic brain injury. Pearce won The Arctic Challenge in 2007 and completed back-to-back titles with victory in 2008.

Hailing from a ramshackle corner of Essex, Kevin Pearce could be forgiven for brandishing his talent with some swagger, yet is as unassuming and as deeply humble as can be. Despite the threat of violence and ridicule from intolerant peers, an 11-year-old Pearce rallied against an environment suspicious of success to realise a creative calling. Possessing a self-taught arsenal of instrumentation and inspired by a generation of balladeers and song smiths, he sounds at once timeless and contemporary.

Kevin Pearce is a solo artist (have guitar, will travel) who has toured with Turin Brakes before, but I had never caught him at any of the gigs I went to. I have heard a lot about him though so I was looking forward to hearing what he had to offer. And I wasn’t disappointed. I think the thing that did it for me was when he said he came from another planet, or Essex as it’s known, and I knew that he would be the kind of guy for me. His songs left me with a lot to think about and also with a sad sense of loss. His version of Working Class Hero was really enjoyable and I was pleased to see.
