Shady Grove (Quicksilver Messenger Service album). Shady Grove is a 1969 studio album by Quicksilver Messenger Service. Nicky Hopkins, the English journeyman pianist who appears on albums by Jeff Beck, The Rolling Stones, The Who, all four of The Beatles and Steve Miller, joined the group for this album. Hopkins' influence is felt throughout Shady Grove, and his contributions pushed the group in new directions.

Quicksilver is the sixth album by American psychedelic rock band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Released in November 1971, it was the first album without original members John Cipollina and David Freiberg. Nicky Hopkins had also left at this point to continue his successful journeyman career. Only Gary Duncan and Greg Elmore remained from the original quartet.

With their third album "Shady Grove", Quicksilver were radically affected by the loss of guitarist Gary Duncan, whose duos with John Cipollina gave their first two albums their unique character later to influence such musicians as Richard Lloyd and The Edge. In his place is session pianist Nicky Hopkins, who unlike most piano players in the pre-synthesiser rock world of the early 1970s, could play the piano as a melody instrument, and the results are almost as striking as "Pride of Man" was on their debut album. As with their first two albums, Quicksilver work largely with.
